Today, the Dream and Promise Act passed the House of Representatives as H.R. 6, a clear indication of its level of priority within the Democratic Party. Second Death in Arizona Detention Centers in Just a Month as Trump Looks to Expand the System Through an Expedited Funding Request

Detention Watch Network, Indivisible Project and Faith in Action’s immigrants’ rights program, LA RED are demanding an immediate investigation and public release of the findings related to the death of Simratpal Singh. Singh, 21, died on May 3 while in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after being detained at the La Paz County Jail. This is the second death to occur in ICE custody in the state of Arizona within the last month and the sixth death to occur in ICE detention in Fiscal Year 2019.

Indivisible Project condemns the Florida legislature’s attempts to undermine the historic Amendment 4

What just happened in Florida is an insult to democracy and spits in the face of the 5.2 million Florida voters who voted to pass Amendment 4 in November. With the compromise legislation that was passed today, the Florida state legislature has undermined the historic initiative, which passed with 65% of the vote, to re-enfranchise 1.4 million returning citizens in Florida. 

Indivisible calls on Congress to reject Trump’s request of $4.5 billion for supplemental border funding

If Congress approves this supplemental funding request, it will be handing Trump more money to cage children, commit abuses against families, and systematically deny asylum seekers their legal rights. Instead of addressing the drivers of migration, like violence and corruption in sending countries, this request will only continue to fund the failed deterrence-based policies that the Trump administration has rabidly pursued.
