Kina is an organizer and coalition builder fighting for an America that works for everyone, not just the people at the top. Born and raised on the West Side of Chicago, she’s intimately aware of the issues impacting everyday folks in Illinois’ 7th district: poverty, gun violence, and inadequate healthcare access. Growing up in a union household, Kina has organizing in her blood. After an intimate experience with gun violence at a young age, she began organizing around gun violence prevention and criminal justice reform. After college, she co-founded and led the Chicago Neighborhood Alliance, one of the largest gun violence prevention groups in the state of Illinois. In 2018, she took on state Republican leaders to pass the Illinois Council on Women and Girls Act, which established a council that advises the governor on gender policies in Illinois. She also organized 20,000 healthcare professionals across the country to take action in support of single payer healthcare.
Kina knows that the 7th district deserves a fighter who will fearlessly stick up for working class families. She’s built a track record of policy making, coalition building, and improving health and safety in her communities. We’re proud to endorse Kina because we know she will organize in Congress as deftly as she’s done it in the streets of the West Side, and deliver for those who need it most.
Western Front Indivisible nominated Kina Collins for a national endorsement. If you would like to join the group or get involved, you can find them on Facebook or Twitter.
